Re-filming?

From looking at my final piece of work from creating our opening two mins I have noticed that there are many things wrong with it. This will bring me down in marks for my final grade, which is something I do not want to happen. This means that I have two options, I can either focus purely on my Research and Planning or I can re-film my piece.

So far I am leaning more towards the option of re-filming. But also from watching my piece I have grown away from the idea that I had, this means that I will most probably be changing the idea of which I am filming. I do not find this a problem as I have been thinking about possible ideas that I feel are better and I can work with more.

The idea is that the audience will see a person (Main Character - MC) walking down a street dressed in normal attire, narration will be heard over the clips that you see, he will turn down an ally but stop as he has a feeling that he is being watched. 'camera will look around the corner at him but as he turns to see the camera it will duck and hide behind the wall'. As he then turns to continue walking down the ally he will see that there is now a man standing in his way a few meters away blocking his path (Bad Guy 1), 'with the main character facing the camera over should shot to reveal that there is also someone now standing behind his a few meters away blocking his escape route (Bad Guy 2)'. Realising what is about to happen MC will take off his jacket and place it on the floor next to him, standing up looking at Bad Guy 1, both Bad Guys will nod at each other signalling that they are about to attack. Bad Guy 2 makes the first move, running forwards to MC, MC will counter by turning and elbowing Bad Guy 2 in the head, knocking him into the wall (Fight scene). Once killing Bad Guy 2 by breaking his neck MC will look at the body, pick up and put on his jacket and move over to the still dazed Bad Guy 1 on the floor, move behind him, pick up his head and begin to strangle him, while covering his mouth, till he is dead. MC will then get up shrug off what just happened and continue to walk off down the ally. Cut to title screen.

If I was to re-film my final piece then this will be the idea that I will go with.

Cliff Hanger

In my opening 2 minuets I have left it at a cliff hanger. The reason for this is because when I have been watching the opening 2 minuets of action movie I have noticed that a lot of them cut to the name of the film after leaving the 2 minuets with a question for the audience to ask, 'Who is that?', 'Why did they do that?', 'What is going to happen next?' ect.

These, if used in the right way, can be extremely effective. The need to be used in a way that makes the audience ask a question, if not then they are pointless and useless.

This is why I have chosen to leave my clip the way I have, I want the audience to ask 'Why?', the only way that they would be able to find out would be to watch the next part of the film.

How My Research Has Helped (Research and Planning)

When looking at the different audiences that are attracted to the different genres of film I noticed that he action genre has a wide range. They attract both male and female and a verity of ages.

I looked at what action films include that they use to attract their audience; they seem to use close ups as this then allows the audience to see and know who each of the characters are. Slow-motion is used in once vital shot highlighting the importance of that scene. To attract the male audience they use chase scenes, fight scenes, gun fights and A LOT of explosions, as for the female audience they choose to use actor who are known highly for their attractiveness 'in a scene of great struggle Channing Tatum suddenly has to take off his shirt in a matter of life and death'.

When aiming for an audience of young teens to adults the film makers will allow their content to be a little more graphic than if aiming for a 'U' rating on a film.
When watching a film the younger generation seem to just want to be thrilled, they want to see the works when is come to fights and pyro-techniques, while the older audience want more of a gripping story with scenes which can get their blood pumping, all generations when watching a action film want to be sitting on the edge of their seat wanting more.

I realise that when coming to making an action from it can provide a challenge as you want your scenes to have both emotion and thrill. When you watch the beginning of a film you want to be gripped by the scruff of the neck, wondering what is going to happen next. A film like this can be hard to make as different people can be thrilled by different things. The opening of action films seems to focus more on the thrill then the emotion within it, they want you to get that burst of adrenalin that keep you wanting.

Casino Royale

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJubOZLpp4A

Target Audience - British & American, Action Lovers, Teens - Adults, Mostly Male,

How film appeals to targeted audience - We start off in the interesting location of Madagascar, this appeals to an audience because it is a location that they do not see a lot so this is a new experiance, you get to see your faverouit characters in a whole new location.
The fist thing that we see is a crowd of people participating in illigal betting, this illegal activity is already setting the atmosphere high as we now know that the target is known for their betting habbits, makes a like to the title 'Casino Royal' with the idea of betting. Allowing the audience to make that link at this early stage allows them to get more into the film they are about to watch because it is allowing the film to have a reason to go to the casinos without needing to explain why.
We learn that the famous James Bond is not working alone, he has an acomplice, allowing the audience to have an idea about the danger from this mission they have been sent on, this then allows the audience to already have the sitting on the edge of your seat atmoshphere for they do not yet know how much danger the task at hand is. Will this acomplise have a grewsom fate? What other reason would James Bond need some help apart from to set a hooking story and motive for James.
The film sticks to the world know stereotype of a White Hero and a Black Villain.
