The Villain

 

 

Within this shot Jack is leaning against a tree checking his gun, preparing to begin to torture his captive. This is a typical bad guy thing to do because it shows he is cocky about the situation, he feels that because he has the gun and his captive's hand and legs are bound then he has full power over him. Enough to take time to simple talk to his captive.
He is always in need to be in control in a situation, the only time he will allow himself not to be in control is when he is getting something out of it, such as money. Every man has his price. Although in reality, he rarely does have control in any situation.

 

 

 

Character who I feel relate to this character:
 

Moriarty - Sherlock

Moriarty is a confident man, assuring Holmes that if he meddles in his plans, he risks inevitable destruction. He has full respect for Holmes's intellect and says that it has been an intellectual treat to grapple with him but is also completely willing to kill Holmes should he oppose him any further, showing a ruthless side. Moriarty has a fiery temper ans also a vengeful streak. Moriarty is similar to Jack's character in the way that he is cocky, he knows when he has time to just sit back and glote about what he has achieved. Also in the way of control, when they are not in control of a situation then they begin to panic.

 

Mr. Creedy - V for Vendetta



Creedy serves the ruling Norsefire party as head of The Finger, the security police who carry out the secret kidnapping, detention and mass murder of anyone who criticizes Norsefire or does not fit its racis standards of "purity". Mr Creedy is similar to Jack's character because he likes to feel in control, but in reality he never is. They both are used by their boss's to get the dirty work done. But in contrast to Jack's character Mr Creedy is higher in the ranks than Jack's, Mr Creedy does have men at his disposal while Jack is the man at disposal.

 

 

Characters who are different:

The Joker - Batman (1989)



The Joker is a psychopathic character who is always in control of every situation, even when you think you are. He has a tendency to, when angry, kill his henchmen. This is different from Jack's character because in no way is Jack's character psychopathic and he is never truely in control of the situation, as much as he would like to believe that he is. Another difference is the fact that The Joker is the leader of the group, he can get others to do his dirty work for him, as much as he does love to do it himself, while Jack's character is one of the henchmen 'grunt' the boss chooses his because they know he will try to get the job done but if he does then it does not effect their plans in any way, it just provides a small bump in the road. A similarality between The Joker and Jack's character would be the fact that when they no longer feel like they are in control they begin to panic for they know they are at risk.



When it comes to characterisation. How the audience sees the characters on the screen is the main way they they begin to relate to the characters and for a relationship with them, if they see someone who is waling around killing people for no reason, like The Joker, then they are going to form a negative relationship with that chracter knowing they are the bad guy, they may like the character but there will be a negative relationship.
On the other hand if they see the character who is trying to stop the killer and save the inocent then they are going to form a posotive relationship with them because they will see that this character is trying to do good within this chaotic world that the audience are seeing on the screen.

Another key element to film would be point of view. They could watch a film with a man who is going around killing people because they are members of an evil cult who have killed his family. This will make you have a posotive relationship whith this character because you feel sympathy with this character, but towards the end of the film it is revieled that this evil cult is not what you thought it was you learn that this cult are the police and the family that was killed are other members of his crime band. This then shifts your view of this character from a posotive relationship to a negative relationship while providing a climax for the film, you begin to think about the fact that you were siding with and supporting a murderer.
